NEBDN Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing (From July 2025)

04 July, 2025

Part 1: What’s New in the NEBDN Diploma – From July 2025

The NEBDN Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing is getting an important upgrade from 1 July 2025, bringing in modernisation, digital innovation, and tighter quality regulation. Whether you’re a prospective student or a provider, here’s what to expect.

Fully Regulated and Nationally Recognised

The updated diploma is regulated by Ofqual (England) and CCEA (Northern Ireland), ensuring national recognition, consistency, and high-quality delivery across all centres.

Assessment Format: Online Professional Discussion

The traditional OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) will be replaced by a live, structured online Professional Discussion. This video-based assessment will simulate OSCE-style clinical questioning but in a more flexible and accessible way.

Knowledge Test and Portfolio Still Core

Students will still complete a multiple-choice Knowledge Test and maintain a workplace-based Record of Experience (RoE) or Record of Competence (RoC), supported by a qualified assessor.

UCAS Points for University Progression

The NEBDN Diploma now carries UCAS tariff points. Typically, this provides 32 points, helping those who may wish to apply for university courses in dental hygiene, therapy, or health sciences. Always check with individual universities about how they accept vocational points.

What to Ask Your Provider

– Am I on the new July 2025 qualification? Confirm your registration date.

– How are assessments delivered? Ensure you’re prepared for the online format.

– What academic or progression support is included? Especially for those planning further study.
